Let me tell you what happened in our house. My uncle Frank inherited a farm that had been in the family for about 200 years. He and his family lived in the main house, and we lived in the one behind it up up the dirt road. There was room that was boarded up. So when my oldest sister turned eight years old, in my religon this is a big turning point. It is when we become eligible for Baptism.

So my parents decided to surprise her. They secretly opened the room.It was bare down to the studs. They lovingly refurbished the room with beautiful rose wall paper. I remember being some what jealous beause she would be the first child to actually have their OWN bedroom. She was the oldest. Any way the big day arrived, and the surprise was complete. Except for that night in the middle of the night she came and got in bed with me. I though she was just lonely or something.

The next day we all had to work in the cabbage fields weeding with our cousins, Wendy & Quita. My sister told them an incredible story. When she went to sleep in the room she awoke to the smell of smoke. So she ran into my parents room, and they had looked all throgh the house, but couldn't find anything burning. So she got sent back to bed.She went back to sleep, and soon was awakened by a room with flames licking the walls.Terrified she again woke up my parents. By the time she got back to the room, there were no flames. Now my parents are getting tired of being bothered, so they that threaten a spanking if she doesn't quit. The third time she awoke to see the flames crawling up the curtains, but feeling as if for some strange reason she cannot move at all. She is paralyzed in the bed. Finally she is able to move and that is when she had come and got into bed with me.

My cousins turned white as a sheet. They said"well you know what happened in that room don't you? Of course we didn't. So they told us that during the civil war an uncle had a stroke and had been paralyzed and confined to bed. Apparently, there had been a candle in the window, and somehow had caught the curtains on fire, and because of the stroke he hadn't been able to call out for help or get out of bed. They were able to put out the fire before it had consumed the house, but they didn't repair the room, it had just been boarded up until my parents had refurbished it for my sister. My sister refused to ever sleep in that room again, so my parents gave it to my brother. He didn't much appreciate the rose wallpaper. But no one else ever had anything happen like what happened to my sister.I guess the uncle was at peace once he had shared what his fear was like with another soul. I think he went home to heaven after that.
