Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Do you realize that I was asking about the specific "85%" statistical figure? I thought I made it explicit. It is a very specific figure, isn't it, and to arrive at it would require some numerical analysis of actual data. Otherwise, the best we can do is to say "in my opinion" and "most". People experiences and personal observations can be misleading (bias). For example, in the environment that I operate, I see many young people, who typically can apply reason at a high level.

As far as your comment on scientists, I could say that most people do not realize what science is, and base their opinion on misrepresentation of it. Philosophy is a standard part of scientific education, for example I studied it in my junior years. It is not a coincidence that PhD means doctor of philosophy, and there is a strong relationship between philosophy and rigorous science, philosophy of maths being one example ( Of course, philosophy uses logic (eg rules of inference), which is a rigorous tool of axiomatic theory, and part of Maths. In fact, there can be no philosophy without the rigor of logic, which is needed for a coherent development of ideas.
