Just as a little experiment the other day I googled fruit deaths then
sprout deaths.

Search results indicated other than a couple of deaths attributed to
eating an extremely overrated fruit, durian, that fruit is definitely a
safe food group to consume.

Results for sprout safety however are quite concerning as since
1995 there have been outbreaks of foodborne illnesses every year to
the extent that a name "sproutbreaks" has been derived and even
more worrying is that 3950 people reported illness (how many didn't
report) and over 50 people died in Europe in 2011 due to
contaminated sprouts. It also had a severe effect on the Spanish
economy as Spanish salad veggies were blamed originally so
massive amounts were left to rot which they estimate cost
$256,000,000. Other fruit and veggies grown throughout Europe
were also shunned.

What a shame to see so many healthy food crops wasted because
of something the majority only use as a garnish.

It's also quite surprising to see Germany jumping to an apparently
quick racially biased decision as nothing in their history would
indicate otherwise.
