Myra, I was putting a happy spin on the whole conflict. In truth, those are my words that fruits are detoxifiers. I am suggesting that Brian's massive fruit consumption in his early years was actually the way he was able to detoxify his body. He doesn't look at it that way. He thinks it was his sugar addiction.
I was shocked to see how by following DR. Morse's advice on eating certain fruits, I was able to detox out phlegm from my lungs that I never knew was there. So, I am suggesting that Brian was actually healing his body with fruit, because he had an unhealthy body before going to Hippocrates.
THe biggest thing wrong I see with fruit bats is that they are too extreme with their fruit and don't eat the mineral-rich greens along with it, so when their teeth fail, they have to swing to the other extreme and avoid fruit like the plague.
People who take the middle way, who have never been a crazy addict, find both extremes hard to understand. I don't think I ever ate more than 3 bananas in a day. I have never eaten more than 7 dates in a day (and just blended in a nutmilk). So people like me can't fully accept what Brian is saying because we can find balance with fruit beyond more than one piece a day.
Give me a break, I have fruit trees. Am I supposed to just grow fruit for the squirrels and birds and opposums? Can't I eat some? Actually Brian is fine with eating ripe fruit from a tree, just in moderation.
So Myra, I say let's focus on our commonalities and sort of ignore the eccentricities of people we don't agree with. Brian has amazing info to share and we should learn it. I have read his articles on fruit from his real truth about health website and he makes very lucid points about fruit. He is very intelligent about it. I totally understand where he is coming from, especially when I go to fruitlucks and I see people gorging out on non-organic, unripe fruit. It's pretty pathetic. I live in an area where there is an abundance of fruit and I think BRian is fine for each person to adapt to their unique environment.
