My guess is that you are using a rice to water ratio more appropriate for white rice, not brown rice. Even with white rice you should be using more water, closer to 3 cups of water for 2 cups of rice. The time at pressure for white rice is about 1/3 of that for brown rice so if you cook the rice with that scant amount of water for 20 minutes I am not surprised that you have burned the rice.

My suggestion is to do as Sabrina has suggested or if you want to only use 2 cups of brown rice use between 3 1/2 and 4 cups of water as Lorna Sass suggests in her book.

Are you turning down the heat when full pressure is reached? Be sure to do that.

Both Kuhn Rikon and Fissler are excellent pressure cookers and it is unfortunate that you have had the bad experiences.

One final suggestion: if you are going to throw away either or both pressure cookers throw them my way.

Try making the rice with the added water and let us know how you make out with it.
