Everyone of us are at different levels of understanding. The gospel is learned and accepted one precept at a time. In the church we are told if we want to know if a precept or idea is true, that first we must learn and study about it. Although people often do, we are not advised to accept anything on blind faith. Like going up stairs we are all at different levels of understanding. The Word of Wisdom is meant to be a guide for healthy living, but like any choice, people are free to study that idea, and decide for themselves what their lifestyle will be. Mormons, like anyone else can be lazy and not want to put in the work required to find truth. But in order to recieve the blessings that are promised, obedience to the law is required. It is their free choice to decide if they want the blessings that are promised or not. Personally, (gospel by Rebecca only-note this is not church doctrine) I think that many members make excuses , because they like eating meat. I know that it says in the scriptures somewhere, that if a man must be commanded in all things that he is refered to as a slothful servant. Perhaps he is called that because he is too lazy to find the truth, and wants somebody else to take all the responsibility of thinking and making choices.
