Hi Dr. Pinkney,

I was watching a video with Dr. Esselstyn, and his Wife discussing diet choices, and Almond Milk and Soy Milk came up.

In it, His Wife said fat free soy milk is available, and it is too, although I can no longer find it in Supermarkets, even Whole Foods. Instead, I have to buy in bulk off of However, my point is that his wife was asked about Almond milk, and she said it was okay, and Dr Esselstyn agreed.

This kind of blew my mind because its got 2.5 grams of fat per serving and I think a serving is only 30 cals which makes it about 90% fat. She did mention that the issue with fat free soy milk is the sugar, which is 6g per serving vs 0g per serving for at least some almond milk.

So, What is your take...more sugar and less fat, or more fat and less sugar?

Using my head (which I do from time to time) it does seem to me that a single serving of Almond Milk is probably not going to rock the universe, while 5 servings possibly would.

So my thinking is that I'll keep both on hand and use both judiciously since they are both processed foods.

I know sugar is now considered at least indirectly atherogenic.

Am I on target?
