I have produced great results by following a whole foods, plant-based diet over the last 5 years. I have been working with a cardiologist who does not trust that lifestyle could really make the difference since I have been living on the standard American Diet for 50 years before making the change.

I want to get off my meds (statin, ACE Inhibitor, BETA Blocker, low-dose aspiring) and told her recently. She points to where I was 5 years ago as justification for not doing so. She follows the Mediterranean Diet and her office is strewn with magazines that have recipes with dairy and meat.

Five years ago I took a non-invasive angiogram (CTA) and learned I had significant blockages, unstable plaque in a blood vessel known as a widow maker, total cholesterol 180, LDL 110, 170 lbs (I'm 5'5"). My total cholesterol now is 147 and LDL is 61. It did get down to 106 and 48 before she started cutting my dosage of meds. I also dropped 30 lbs and 5 inches in my waist.

Although I do believe that lifestyle/food choices are the way to go, I would rather make this transition under a cardiologist's watch. Do you have any suggestions?
