Subject: How do I celebrate's my son first Birthday?
Date: June 21, 2005 at 8:00 am PST

I am in the transitition of becoming vegan. I have avoided making meat in the home, and eating meat...I have to come up with a creative way of celebrating my son's birthday, and having food for everybody...In my family, in most hispanic family a plate is not a plate without the meat!Should I just buy a plate of chicken to serve everyone, and call it a day?

I was thinking about having like mixed fruit platters, plain potato chips, what else can I have as a snack?

Also for dinner, white rice, black beans, rice with peas, salad (tomatoe, lettuce, onions, corn). (There is never a party without macaroni salad usually with mayo, tuna, etc, and potato salad, usually with eggs, mayo). Are there any vegan versions? Do they taste good?

This is how we celebrate the first birthday, we offer drinks, food, beer, music, games, etc. I don't want my son to miss out on having the pictures of the event in the future...

I want my guest to be happy, but why would I want to serve them food that is not good for any of us...

How can I find someone that can bake a cake with no milk and eggs, and do they test good? Do vegetarian restaurants offer catering? Would that help me? I need ideas...Thanks
