Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, can be defined as an elevated force of pressure against the artery walls as the heart pumps blood to the rest of the body. It can eventually lead to various health problems if it becomes chronic in nature.
Stroke is one of the most concerning health consequences that can occur due to chronic high blood pressure. Other ill health effects include heart attacks, kidney disease, peripheral vascular disease, heart failure, retinopathy (damage to the retina of the eye leading to possible blindness), dementia, and premature death.
