I am still not in favor of donating or receiving blood, and certainly not in favor of the way the system is currenly set up and utilized. People die in hospitals constantly. They have a ready supply of blood at all times, if they would simply use the blood of those who recently died, where appropriate or necessary. Donating blood seems to me to be more of a public relations scheme than a true medical function. It seems strange to me that you can donate blood but that that very same blood would be sold to you at extravagent prices were you to receive it in a transfusion. It seems odd that you can donate blood but cannot have it saved for your own access should you need it later, meaning that you must rely upon someone else's blood in the case of a transfusion. It seems odd to me that in the light of the fact that blood will be rejected, every time, that more saline isn't given instead of whole blood. Dr D
