To correct the last post, it was ketoacidosis secondary to starvation, not outwidth.

Nothing that hasn't already been covered, but the study claims:

"In our clinical experience,
followers of this way of life are vulnerable not only to
suffer nutritional deficiencies, but also to develop se-
rious metabolic impairments that may be life-threaten-
ing, as occurred in our patient"

I managed to find the full paper for free, for anyone who is interested.
