About a year or so ago I was in the library looking for something interesting to read. I came across this book called The Girl With No Name by Marina Chapman. It said she was raised by monkeys so I got it out and read it. What to make of it? Recently there was a TV program made of it as well where she went back to the jungle looking for the place where she lived, and the jungle area.

The relevant point of the book for this board is ...

She lived near the border of Colombia and Venezuela. At age 5 or 6 she was kidnapped from her back yard and ended up in the deep jungle and was left there. For the first couple of weeks she had to fend for herself until she came across a group of small South American monkeys. At first they were hostile to her but after a while they embraced her and that's how she survived for the next 4 or 5 years or however long she was with them until she got rescued by some people in the jungle.

The monkeys taught her what to eat and what was safe. Is it believable? Can a 5 or 6 year old survive for that long on her own? Would she be able to survive on a 100% raw ( mostly vegan ) diet at that age considering her previous diet would have been mostly cooked.

She isn't a raw foodist or anything like that so it wasn't her focus or something she went on about - other than it being part of her experience, but I was interested. Is it credible? She is now 65 and living in England.

It was an interesting read.
