Subject:         Revisiting Fred Patenaude's article "The Death of the Raw Food Diet"
Date: September 28, 2014 at 9:45 am PST

Back in October of 2013, Fred Patenaude published an essay
titled "The Death of the Raw Food Diet". You can find it
online via a Google search.

Some months before Fred's post appeared, the raw vegan
community was rocked by news that prominent gurus including
Paul Nison, some of the Boutenkos, and others, were adding
cooked foods or even small amounts of non-vegan foods to
their diets. The corrupt low-fat raw vegan diet gurus and
their true believers used that to attack their higher-fat
raw vegan counterparts, claiming that low fat raw vegan was
the only raw diet of merit.

In the same time period, 2012 and 2013, a number of major
raw vegan online forums shut down: Give it to me raw,
Graham's FoodnSport forum, Alissa Cohen's forum.

More recently the truth has become widely known: that
reports of failures and problems on low fat raw vegan diets
were censored on this site, 30BAD, and the raw*food*support
forum. The only voice of dissonance was the
30bananasadaysucks forum, which has also closed.

Durianrider has stated in public many times that the 100%
raw version of 30BAD failed for 99% of followers, and he has
since switched to promoting raw + cooked hybrid. This has
been met with disapproval from 100% raw true believers.

The raw community has been splintered, with a large portion
of the previous followers rejecting the idea that 100% raw
vegan is the ideal, and skeptical of the massively corrupt
raw vegan diet gurus.

My opinion is that strict 100% raw vegan diets are
effectively dead, as Fred Patenaude says. The number of
actual followers is very low, and the corrupt gurus cannot
suppress the truth of the failures and problems on the diet.
Except for a few true believers who are overcome with
cognitive dissonance, the few folks who follow these diets
nowadays are at least aware of the possible risks.
