Yes MM,

there is a set rda for sodium for a reason, yet most raw vegans would be lucky to get 20% rda. Sodium is an essential mineral yet many of us conveniently ignore this fact and seem to think we don't need it. There are now new studies discussing the possible dangers of low sodium diets such as this one linking increased risk of death to extreme low sodium intakes. Remember folks, sodium is an essential mineral for very good reason.

I was never big on supplementing and using non food items, but now l have forced myself to broaden my horizens and take some mineralised salt in my food because l was averaging 6% rda for sodium. Yes, l take seaweed about 6 days per week, but 10 grams of kelp only gives you 1% rda for sodium.

I would like to continue this my discussion over a variety of nutrients and relate it to 80-10-10. Not everyone may want to read this but l am hoping we can be mature and talk about the issues l want to bring up in a sane and balanced manner. I am hoping we can be adult and discuss issues that we may not necessarily want to hear. There are numerous things l haven't wanted to hear about raw vegan diets, but best to acknoweldge them and plan ahead than to remain deluded in a comfort zone.

We want to make our raw diets better and let go of old loved philosophies, especially if certain diets experience a poor reputation.

I want to discuss the bad side of the diet, but then l want to do my best to find reasons why the bad stuff may not be so bad. My aim is not to pick on certain diets, my aim is to be as balanced as l can in my commentary.
