it's the same thing even here in malaysia, maybe not
as bad but bad enough to be troublesome at times.
sure, there are fruits like rambutans and mangosteens
that are picked only after they have ripened but
these are not always available.

bananas and jackfruits are always available but often
picked too early that even after they "ripened" they
still have an astringent taste. i'm not saying there
are no good ones. there are. one just need to have
patience and spend some time going through all of
them. i often end up with none and have to go find
fruit somewhere else. foraging in the 21st century.

i suppose having a keen eye to quickly spot good
fruits is essential no matter where one lives. being
able to get all the jackfruits in a straight line at
the snap of the fingers would be a plus too. :-)

it does make one wonder if people buy fruits for
ornamental purposes. if not, how do fruit growers
stay in business producing such poor quality fruits?
