Subject:         Dr. D - effects of hachiya persimmons in GI tract
Date: November 2, 2009 at 1:19 pm PST

Hi Dr. D,

I just had a monomeal of 5 hachiya persimmons and it caused a disaster in my mouth! Teeth cleaning, done immediately after, was very difficult and long, considering the thick, chalky paste stuck on my tongue, and also gobs in between my teeth.

I can't imagine what they are like as they travel through the GI tract if they are this difficult to remove from teeth. Any need to avoid eating them in med-large quantites? Perhaps they get stuck in those small folds/pockets of the GI tract?

What might their effects be on the GI tract as they travel through? How often and how much do you recommend eating them? What can you tell me about persimmons that make them they way they are?

All responses welcome!

Thank you.
