After 3 May, it will remain illegal to export: beef or products derived from cattle born or reared in the UK and slaughtered before 15 June 2005; http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/bse/pdf/guidancebeef2.pdf explains the responsibilities placed upon exporters by the EU legislation, the steps which must be taken to ensure that goods exported comply with the law, and the measures which will be taken to monitor compliance. The conditions for export will depend on whether the export is to a European Union (EU) member state or to a third country outside the EU. Third countries may not allow exports, or may set additional conditions. Some EU countries - e.g. France - may take a little time to amend their national rules prohibiting the import of beef and bovine products from UK. The situation with respect to EU countries’ import rules has been made available. http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/bse/pdf/mss_import-bans.pdf http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/bse/index.html The following figures are for BSE in Great Britain (excluding the Channel Islands and Isle of Man) unless otherwise indicated.
