You should also mention that the manipulated dead Frank was only created because of Donnie, he shot him in the eye in the Tangent Universe which caused him to exist in that form. The real frank is Elizabeth Darko's boyfriend. He is also the frank that runs over his Donnie's girl in the tangent Universe.

After everyone woke from the 'dream', Frank still remembered and was honking his horn to warn Donnie to get out of bed, however donnie didnt hear or purposely didnt listen...this is also evidence that Donnie didnt need to die.
