| Subject: | how to get a 1st grader tested for learning disabilities |

Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me, I seem to be at a cross roads. I am homeschooling three children, 2 six year olds and a 11 year old. One of the 6 year olds, Amanda, and Brandon, the 11 year old have special needs while Amber is already a gifted child.
All three children have been in public school, and Brandon has an IEP already. Amanda however does not have an IEP and we were working on establishing one at the beginning of the school year before I pulled her out. She is signficantly behind all her peers, she just learned how to spell out the letters in her name but cannot write anything down on paper and does not understand words on paper at all. I have drilled her with flashcards for hours and began making progress just to have her forget everything the next day.
Amanda does have some visual issues that we are trying to determine the underlying cause as well, but I believe this is more then just a visual issue.
So after my rambling I have a few questions:
1, should I wait until her eye appointments in a month and a half before i think about learning disabilities?
2. How can I get her tested for any learning disabilities?
3. Is the school district suppose to supply these assessments or should I go through the children's hospital?
I really appreciate any input.
Sincerely.
Nita
