I have an 11 1/2 yo dd who came home almost 3 years ago from Russia. She is probably more like a 7 yo. Schooling is a pure nightmare! She just doesn't seem to catch on easily. She reads at about early 2nd grade. Math- she doesn't understand the concept of adding or subtracting on a consistent basis, so it is hard to move forward. She still doesn't "get" the sounds of the alphabet. Her hearing has been tested and she has absolutely perfect hearing! Yet, she still doesn't know all the sounds. I wish I could help make things look positive, because I too would like to know how people get these kids to want to advance.
